The gumboots group

What is gumboots?

Gumboots is a south african dance. It has been developed by the miners during the Apartheid. It was their only way to communicate with each others while working in the mines: using their boots. It has become a traditional dance in South Africa. In this dance, we use the boots to make both the rythm and the dance.

It has become popular worldwide after a group made a tour all over the world. See their website.

Amaqhawé was a group in the African dance school Afrique en mouvement.
